Look closely at those vibrant violet-blue blooms, and you’ll notice a golden-yellow star glowing at the centre of each one. The Blue Potato Bush, also known as Paraguay Nightshade, is a fast-growing, evergreen shrub with a rounded, bushy form and slender, arching branches clothed in small, oval, medium-green leaves. From spring through autumn (and often year-round in mild coastal gardens), it produces an abundance of trumpet-shaped flowers in striking bright blue-purple, each with that distinctive starry golden eye. Small, ornamental, orange-red berries follow, adding further interest and attracting birds.
